On the night of September 28 a fire broke out in the seminary of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra north of Moscow, claiming the lives of 5 theological students and 10 other persons. The fire was very fierce; the seminary living quarters were severely damaged and the newly-completed graduation hall was virtualy destroyed. However, according to the official report in the Soviet paper ‘Izvestia,” no valuable “monuments or art treasures” we re lost. The same report omitted any mention of the lives taken by the disaster.
