Bdorussian Orthodox MIfkhail Kukobaka (b. Dec. 3, 1936) was rearrested in camp shortly before his release and charged with “anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda”. It is not known yet what sentence he has received, although the rearrest took place in August.

Kukobaka is currently serving a three year sentence in Camp No. 36 in Perm. He had spent 13 years in custody, including at least seven years in psychiatric hospitals, for writings circulated in samizdat and for his refusal to remove an icon from above his bed in the workers’ hostel where he lived. He has no living relatives. This is the second consecutive rearrest in camp he has suffered, and there are fears that he will be imprisoned for the rest of his life. (KNS #235, 10/3/85)
