In response to the recent proceedings of the WCC, the Sobor of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia issued a Resolution stating that the Church “does not take part in the WCC inasmuch as it strives to represent as Christian unity that which in actual fact is only a confluence of various dogmatic opinions, which differ profoundly one from another. She likewise cannot agree with the utilization of Christianity for political aims implemented under the considerable influence of the Soviet Union, allegedly in the name of peace, the purpose of which is to bring to a halt all opposition to communist aggression which everywhere is followed by persecution of religion, deprivation of freedom, terrorism, and the violation of the peaceful life of citizens…” (8/10/83)
